Broken Hill to Cameron Corner
Your desert tour begins as we depart Broken Hill and travel to Tibooburra via Milparinka. Tibooburra is a small Corner Country community of only 150 people with a friendly atmosphere and a real sense of the outback. After a look around Tibooburra we continue on to Cameron Corner, where the three states meet.
Two Nights Accommodation: The Corner cabins
This morning we follow in the footsteps of Captain Starlight as we travel along the Strzelecki Track to Innamincka. The track is steeped in history and is home to fossils of the world’s largest marsupial known as Diprotodon. After settling into our accommodation we will take a look around Cooper Creek. Cooper Creek is the 2nd longest inland river system in Australia and flows to the Lake Eyre Basin.
Birdsville and Diamantina River
Traveling either via Cordillo Downs or Walkers Crossing we head to Birdsville to prepare for our desert crossing. Birdsville lies between the Simpson and Sturt Stony Deserts and is the starting point of the famous Birdsville Track. Admire the Diamantina River and the famous pub.
Two Nights Accommodation: Motel style cabins
We start the day with a tour of the remarkable ‘Working Museum’, while the rest of the day is free to relax and soak up the atmosphere of this great outback town. The museum takes you back in time to see the ways of the past. See the harness maker, wheelwright and blacksmith shops, horse gears and brace wagons. Be fascinated by the old hospital, clocks, pottery, toys, art gallery and of course the machinery shed.
The Simpson Desert, "Big Red"
Leaving Birdsville we travel west to start our desert crossing by first conquering ‘Big Red’, the highest of more than 1130 sand dunes on our crossing. Along the way we stop at Poeppels Corner, the junction of the 3 states - QLD, SA and NT. Tonight is our first night bush camping, with a delightful campfire cooked dinner.

The Simpson Desert
Another day of excitement as we continue in our quest to traverse the Simpson. Experience the beauty of the endless red sands, rolling dunes and horizons. Tonight we will spend another delightful evening at our bush camp, about midway across the desert.
Camp Purni Bore
Today we head further west to make camp at Purni Bore. After establishing camp, enjoy a hot shower then explore this oasis in the desert. As night falls, listen to and look out for the abundance of wildlife in the area such as dingoes, wild camels and donkeys in the area.
The Dalhousie Springs are an outback oasis and a haven for wildlife. Located on the edge of the Simpson Desert, it is the outback's largest natural expression of surface water. A highlight of today is a swim in the warm pools at Dalhousie Springs, then on to Mt Dare homestead for dinner and accommodation.

Oodnadatta to Coober Pedy
This morning we will travel to Oodnadatta, stopping for morning tea near Eringa waterhole along the way. Oodnadatta is a remote outback town home to a heritage-listed sandstone railway station that has been converted into a museum, as well as the famed Pink Roadhouse. Leaving Oodnadatta we travel via Mt Barry to the opal-mining town of Coober Pedy for an overnight stay.

From Borefield Track to William Creek
From Coober Pedy we follow the Borefield Track to William Creek, stopping to view Lake Cadibarrawirracanna. Then we continue onward along the Oodnadatta Track to Marree, which is at the junction of the Birdsville Track. Marree is rich in Aboriginal culture and history and will be our destination for tonight.

Farina to Flinders Ranges
From Marree we head south visiting attractions including the ruins of Farina township, Lyndhurst Ochre pits and Talc Alf (a real-life outback character). Our destination is one of the largest working sheep stations in the Flinders Ranges. Accommodation in historic, stone shearer’s quarters. Dinner tonight is with the station owners.

A highly recommended option to start the day is an early morning scenic flight over Wilpena Pound. Then we travel through the southern Flinders to Hawker and Orroroo, for lunch at Maggie’s Rendezvous. Then continue on to Broken Hill in New South Wales where your journey ends.
