Great Barrier Reef
This evening, we board your vessel which will be your home away from home for the next 3 exciting days! Being on a unique liveaboard like this is the perfect way to see the world famous Great Barrier Reef. It is one of the richest, most complex and diverse ecosystems in the world. Over these 3 days you'll see an array of marine life while waking up to an explosion of color and activities. We'll dive and snorkel into the evenings each day as daylight softly moves to dusk.
Monday evening 7:00pm
Wake up early and have your site brief, we go on our first dive at 7:30am to begin exploring beautiful Wheeler Reef. This reef is rated as one of the premier snorkeling and diving sites in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. It has many shallow areas well suited to snorkeling and introductory diving, there is also deep bommies and swim-throughs for the experienced diver. Wheeler Reef is an excellent location for diving with large schools of pelagic species as well as macro species such as the ghost pipe fish. 3 Dives 1 night dive
Davies Reef has many dive sites from large pinnacles with small caves to prolific coral gardens and drop-offs, where deep gutters cut through the reef and the walls are decorated with soft corals and gorgonians. See small tropical fish and large schools of pelagics congregate in the area. Some popular dive sites to check out include Sister, Coral Gardens, Lions Den and The Maze.
You'll have 3 dives on Davies Reef and later in the evening you can experience 1 night dive.
SS Yongala Wreck
Discover the most famous wreck dive in not only the Great Barrier Reef, but the best in Australia - the SS Yongala Wreck. Here, everything is big, the fish, the schools and the wreck. Yongala is a 110m hull luxury vessel who was making her way from Melbourne to Townville when in 1911 she sank during a cyclone with the loss of all 122 passengers and crew on board. Although the SS Yongala is spectacular, the dive is most famous for the abundant marine life - it is often said that you'll see more marine life on one dive on the Yongala Wreck and you will on half a dozen dives on the reef! Expect to see big schools of giant Trevally and barracuda cruising through the wreck.
We spend 2 dives on the famous SS Yongala Wreck, then return to Townsville - approx 5:00pm Breakwater Marina, Townsville
