Yarra Valley, Dandenongs and The Ranges - Victoria
Just an hour’s drive to the east of Melbourne are the Yarra Valley
and Dandenong Ranges. Many wineries are dotted throughout the rolling hills
of the Yarra Valley, among them Domaine Chandon (owned by Moet et Chandon),
St Hubert’s and De Bortoli. Taste wines at the cellar door, or stop
for a lunch at the vineyard cafes, many of which have great views over the
vines.
At Healesville Wildlife Sanctuary you can see kangaroos, koalas, wombats
and emus freely wander about and scarlet parrots eat from the palm of your
hand. Or get behind the scenes by visiting the fascinating Animal Hospital.
You can appreciate the best of the Dandenong Ranges by travelling on the
historic steam train, Puffing Billy, through the lush green hills, then stopping
to enjoy a traditional Devonshire tea of warm scones, jam and cream. The
Dandenongs is also known for its beautiful gardens, many of which are open
to the public.
