Perth to Cervantes
Begin your adventure along the Indian Ocean Drive to the coastal town of Cervantes and one of Australia’s most unique landscapes, the Pinnacles Desert. Located in the Nambung National Park, these ancient limestone pillars rise straight out of the sand and are a must see for visitors to Cervantes. The formations are best seen at dawn or dusk when they cast long, strange shadows over the rippling yellow sand dunes, you can get up close to the Pinnacles on a scenic drive and walk trail that includes an amazing lookout over the Nambung National Park. Following this, take a dive tour and experience the wonder of Jurien Bay Marine Park, including sea lions, dolphins, humpback whales and colorful coral. Overnight.

Cervantes to Kalbarri
Pass through Geraldton, the home of water sports, on your way to Kalbarri. Take a rest stop here and enjoy the beautiful coastline to the west and rolling hills and breakaway ranges to the east. Relax on the white sandy beaches or give windsurfing a go. Carry on up the coast to Kalbarri and stay 2 nights.

Experience a panoramic view of the Murchison River as it winds through the gorge. A half day adventure with photo opportunities and time to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the gorges.
Kalbarri to Denham and Shark Bay
Continue north to Denham and the Shark Bay World Heritage Area – famous for its friendly dolphins. Keep an eye out for the world’s oldest living fossils - the Hamelin Pool stromatolites, believed to be about 3.5 billion years old and this is one of only two places in the world that they can be seen. Head to the Discovery and Visitor Centre to learn about Shark Bay’s hidden treasures or relax at Shell Beach and enjoy the sunshine. Overnight.

Denham to Monkey Mia
Take a short drive around to Monkey Mia and enjoy a 2.5 hour wildlife sailing cruise in one of the world’s most important animal behavioral research sites. Scientists from all over the world come to Monkey Mia to unravel the mysteries of the marine world filled with wildlife including wild dolphins, green turtles and dugongs. If you are visiting in the warmer months, you will also witness sea snakes, sharks, sting-rays and the possibility of manta rays and whales. Overnight.

Monkey Mia to Coral Bay
After departing from Monkey Mia, continue north and stop off to marvel at the Carnarvon blowholes which can reach up to 20m high. This natural spectacle is caused by the ocean forcing water through the sea caves and up through holes in the rock. Arrive at the amazing Coral Bay & Ningaloo Reef; this is Australia's only fringing reef where the coral starts right at the water's edge. Stay in Coral Bay overnight.

Stroll along the Coral Bay Walkway; a stunning walk where you have a unique opportunity to witness dolphins, manta rays and a large range of fish swimming through the crystal clear waters from a number of vantage points. The 2km walk takes you through the Pioneer and Naturalist Parks where you can see kangaroos, emus, a variety of bird life and perhaps a glimpse of the bungarra - a giant goanna. Settle back on the white sands to watch the famous West Australian sunset. Get out on the water on a glass bottom boat to get a closer view of the marine life (own expense). This afternoon drive north to Exmouth where you will stay overnight.

Day 8 to 10
Time to explore; the 3 Day Live aboard Adventure is the best way to experience Ningaloo Reef and uninhabited islands off the Exmouth coast. Exmouth to Karratha
Head east on a long journey to Karratha in the heart of the Central Pilbara Coast (approx 5 hours). Karratha is the gateway to the 42 islands of the Dampier Archipelago and the Jaburara Heritage Trail, which features magnificent Aboriginal rock art. Settle in to your accommodation and catch the ‘Stairway to the Moon’ from May to October.

Karratha to Port Hedland
This morning is free for you to explore Karratha. Walk the Jaburara Heritage Trail and discover Indigenous rock engravings and artifacts or head for Hearson’s Cove for a swim. Continue on for approximately 2.5 hours to Port Hedland and stay overnight to witness the breathtaking Staircase to the Moon. This natural phenomenon is caused by the rising of a full moon reflecting on the exposed mudflats at extremely low tide - creating a beautiful optical illusion of a staircase reaching up to the moon (check for dates).

Port Hedland to Broome
Today you will drive onwards to Broome in time to catch a memorable sunset on the shores of Cable Beach (6 hour drive). Perhaps make the end of your trip more memorable with a sunset camel ride (own expense, 100kg weight limit). Broome is also known as "the pearl of the north" as it is the harvesting grounds of the beautiful South Sea pearls. Your self-drive journey ends here in Broome.
