Daily itinerary
Day 1
After departing Alice Springs we travel west through the Gillen Range formation arriving at Honeymoon Gap to meet our traditional hosts John and Marilyn. Following a moving ‘Welcome to Country’ ceremony, we will be guided around the land they refer to as ‘natures pharmacy’. Learn about Arrernte culture, the language, medicinal and food values and how the natural and spiritual world impacts their lives. This experience will 'Utnenge Mwarre Irreme' (Make your spirit soar).
After lunch, we travel towards ‘Wurre’ (Rainbow Valley). Our Aboriginal host will share the spectacular art site of Rainbow Valley where we experience rock art, engravings and occupation sites never before open to the public. Listen to the stories and learn of the cultural significance of this ancient landscape. As sun sets, be amazed by the colours rising from the valley face. This makes for a glorious end to the day before we move to our remote campsite for a night under the southern stars with a meal cooked over the campfire before settling down into your aussie swag, just us and the wild of the Central Australian outback.
Day 2
Up with the local resident bird choir, the sunrise colours on the surrounding countryside will astound you. After a hearty breakfast we break camp and travel towards ‘Mpwelarre’ (Walkabout Bore) along an exclusive outback track where Red Kangaroo (Marloo), Euro, wild Camel, Horses and a host of natures creatures can be observed. Our hosts will introduce you to the ‘Kunata’ (Hailstone Dreaming), and additional exclusive rock art and engraving sites, imparting further stories of the locations cultural significance.
Late morning we will travel a short distance to Oak Valley Aboriginal Community, an inspiring community boasting a commercial olive plantation. After lunch our host will take you into his country explaining the varied local Aboriginal rock carvings (petro glyphs), paintings and a rare ancient fossil field, all set in remote pristine desert country. Our host is more than just entertaining, he is also an extremely talented artist and his father a fine craftsman of artifacts.
We are only 90 minutes from Alice Springs and will return you to your accommodation at approximately 5pm.
