This is one of Tasmania’s “Great Short Walks," around 45 minutes, ending at the remarkable rock formations of Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen.

Meet the Tasmanian Devils

Visit the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo to witness the startling sight of Tasmanian Devils feeding. Watch the snarling, fighting and bone crushing in a spectacle of devilish behaviour. Hand feed the wallabies and walk amongst the local fauna and flora in the charming “Unzoo” setting.

The hike to Cape Hauy at your leisure is an 8 kilometer (about 5 miles) return walk. The trail work is some of the best in the country, pleasantly placed rock steps, skirting the coastline then winding up in-land. 

Cape Hauy is the last leg of the newly opened Three Capes Track, jutting out into the Tasman Sea, the track concludes on the cliff's edge, 150M above the water. Enjoy panoramic views to Cape Pillar, Hippolyte Rock, and Maria Island. View spectacular dolerite columns popular with dare-devil climbers. Gaze over the sea stacks known as the 'Candlestick' and 'Totem Pole'. 

On returning to Fortescue Bay, enjoy soaking your toes in the water, have a swim or walk the beach before you hit the road home.

Make your way up the East Coast today to Coles Bay in the Freycinet National Park.

Freycinet National Park

Freycinet National Park, with its stunning pink granite peaks, is located on Tasmania's east coast. At Wineglass Bay the pink granite mountains form the backdrop for secluded bays, pristine waters, white sandy beaches, local wildlife, and walking trails.

The Bay of Fires, found in a remote, wind-swept corner of Tasmania, is surely one of this country’s most startling natural wonders for its constantly changing moods.

The slice of coastal heaven that is the Bay of Fires stretches over 50 kilometres from Binalong Bay in the south to Eddystone Point in the north. This beautiful part of Tasmania’s east coast has been named by Lonely Planet as the hottest travel destination in the world and is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful places in Australia. Walk for miles along sugar-white sandy beaches, swim in the impossibly clear ocean, and feel like you’re the only person to have ever set foot here.

After a journey into the mountains, you will arrive at Cradle Mountain. Located at the northern end of the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Cradle Mountain is one of Tasmania's most visited natural attractions. While there's no actual town at Cradle Mountain, you will be staying at Cradle Mountain Lodge.

Part of the Tasmanian World Heritage Wilderness Area, the surrounding landscape is diverse and includes grassland, rainforest and ancient plants such as the long-lived King Billy pine and the native 'fagus' or deciduous beech.

The park also provides a rich habitat for wildlife, including Tasmanian devils, quolls, platypus, echidna, and several bird species.

Cradle Mountain National Park is arguably one of the prettiest National Parks in Australia. With alpine wilderness, abundant native wildlife and a huge variety of walking trails to choose from you'll love exploring this peaceful haven.

The gentle Dove Lake Circuit takes around 2 hours with amazing mountain views. Or you try the climb to Marion’s Lookout if you feel energetic. It's ridiculously steep but the lake & mountain views from the top are a worthy reward.

If hiking isn't your thing, there are endless ways to explore the area: try a scenic flight, horse treks, canyoning adventure or a wildlife spotting walk to name but a few!
