The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia. The Great Barrier Reef can be seen from outer space and is the world's biggest single structure made by living organisms. The reef is called the 'Barrier' Reef because it is an outer reef, situated along the Australian continental shelf with the channel between the coastline and the reef reaching a depth of about 60m. The other type of reef is a 'Fringe' reef, which is situated along the coastline of land and islands. The best locations to experience the reef are Airlie Beach, Cairns, Port Douglas, Townsville or Cooktown and some of the best ways to see the reef is by glass bottom boat, semi-submersible boats but the best way to see the reef is by snorkelling or diving. Even for those who don't feel brave enough just try, it's definitely worth it.
