Be surprised by Auckland’s exceptional natural beauty, just outside of the city you will find volcanic islands, sandy beaches and an abundance of wildlife some of which are no longer on the mainland! From the Auckland waterfront you can start paddling to Devonport, Rangitoto and other islands in the Hauraki Gulf.
The Hauraki Gulf
These locations are ideal for someone who wants to relax and unwind in a pristine area away from the city, being far enough to allow a unique experience in Auckland.
The Hauraki Gulf is also a Maritime Park, managed by the Department of Conservation, which includes 47 islands of various sizes. Some of them are touristic sites; some others are protected areas, where local wild life can thrive far from danger and extinction.
Not only are these islands rich in wildlife, but also the waters of the Gulf host numerous marine mammals, such as dolphins, fin whales orcas and hundreds of different fish.
