April in Margaret River brings comfortably warm days, with temperatures that entice you to the great outdoors without breaking into a sweat. The nights bring about a cool change, which is perfect for snuggling up with a glass of local wine by a crackling fire.

The trees begin to transform in true autumn style with leaves turning from lush green to shades of orange, red, and gold, for you to enjoy on every walk. The weather is a blend of sunny days with occasional showers, becoming more frequent towards the end of the month. 

April also follows March with a slight shift in the winds, with breezes coming in from the south. This means that even on the warmest days, you can enjoy the cooler breeze washing over you.

Average Temperatures in Margaret River in April

On average, you can expect daytime temperatures to hover around the pleasant 20°C - 24°C mark, ensuring the sun is shining (but not too hot) as you venture out for some sightseeing. Temperatures reach an expected high of 24°C (75.2°F) during the day, which is perfect for beach trips, winery tastings and nature hikes.

As the sun dips at the end of the day, the temperatures follow, often dropping to a cooler 11°C to 14°C. It might sound a little chilly, but this is where the fun begins! It's cool enough to justify lighting up a bonfire or wrapping yourself in a snug blanket, but not so cold that you'd be shivering in your boots.

As the mild autumn temperatures settle in a little more and the days start to grow shorter, we are still greeted with plenty of sunlight hours to explore. The best part? The sun isn’t as intense as those peak summer months, so it’s a much more pleasant time to see the sights.  At the beginning of April, Margaret River enjoys about 11 hours and 45 minutes of daylight, with the sun rising about 6.30am and setting at 6.15pm. 

This gradually decreases throughout the month to about 10 hours and 50 minutes with the sun rising at 6.50am and setting at 5.40pm. The good news, there’s still plenty of time to head outdoors and make the most of the daylight hours.

April is the perfect time to visit Margaret River, with nice and mild temperatures that allow you to get out and about and explore, without the extreme heat that summer brings with it. As autumn makes itself known in the region, you can also enjoy nice and vibrant colours, crisp air, and a calendar bursting with events and activities. 

Whether you’re an adventure seeker hunting down thrillseeking activities, or more of a leisure lover after a more laid-back experience, there’s something for everyone. Let's dive into some of the best things to do in this Margaret River in April.

Gracetown Bay Swim

While April isn’t the typical time of the year to be diving into cooler waters, the Gracetown Bay Swim is well worth taking that dip. It is an annual event that brings together swimmers of all ages and abilities. Whether you're competing or simply enjoying a leisurely swim, the crystal-clear waters, rugged cliffs and golden beaches, offer a spectacular backdrop. 

There’s lots of great prizes, and even a short course and lots of fun events for the kids. Again, you can simply head along and support from the sidelines as you watch the racers dive in.

And once you've had your fill of the water, the shores of Gracetown Bay provide the perfect spot for a picnic, a game of beach volleyball, or simply basking in the sun. 

XTERRA Dunsborough 

Do you have a thrill-seeker side? This off-road triathlon, which takes place in Meelup Regional Park, is not for the faint-hearted but promises the perfect adrenaline rush. Participants are challenged to swim through the turquoise waters of Geographe Bay, mountain bike along a single track lined with wildflowers and run along a sculptured granite coastline.

More than 1,500 competitors take part each year with a course to suit all ages and levels. Of course, you don’t have to compete to enjoy this community event. Cheer on the athletes, enjoy the festive atmosphere, and maybe, just maybe, get inspired to join in next year!

Cowaramup Easter Fair 

April (often) brings with it the joys of Easter - and there’s no better way to celebrate than at the Cowaramup Easter Fair. This family-friendly event is a great mix of fun, food, and festivity. 

From egg hunts to craft stalls, live music to delicious local produce, there's something for everyone. 

Children can lose themselves in the various games and activities, while adults can indulge in some wine tasting or simply relax and soak in the vibrant atmosphere. Just be sure to check dates as the event can change depending on when Easter falls each year.

April is a fantastic time to visit Berry Farm, where the fruits are ripe for picking. Spend your day wandering through Rosa Glen, where you will find rows of juicy treats, filling your basket with delicious berries you can snack on throughout your travels. 

And once you've had your fill of fruit picking, head to the Cellar Door, where you will find crafted wines poured alongside ciders, fruit liqueurs, fortified wines and dessert wines. There’s also rows of homemade fruit jams, preserves, syrups and fermented vinegars for you to make your way through, and maybe even pick out a souvenir or two. 

You can top it off with a visit to the Cottage Café to round off your visit. Kids can play on one of their three playgrounds, test themselves at the giant checker's game or visit the nearby animals that live on the farm.  Whether you're indulging in a berry pie, sipping on fruit wine, or simply enjoying the farm life, it’s a visit that you’ll remember.

There's something magical about Boranup Forest in April. The autumn trees create a canopy of colours, while the forest floor is carpeted with fallen leaves. It's the perfect setting for a picnic. Pack a hamper with local cheeses, wines, and fresh bread, and find a secluded spot somewhere within the karri trees. It’s one of the best ways to soak up the stunning views.

As you dine, you can really settle back and enjoy all the sounds that come with it, from the rustling of leaves to the distant calls of birds. It’s the perfect opportunity to take a little time out from your travels to truly appreciate your amazing surroundings.
