The easiest way to reach Tasmania is by air, with direct flights to the state capital of Hobart from Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Sydney and Auckland New Zealand. The northern city of Launceston has direct flights from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. We wouldnt necessarily recommnend the Spirit of Tasmania cruise ship from Melbourne to Devonport, it takes 9-11 hours so the kids might not be thrilled by that prospect!
