Jatbula Trail

Katherine lies 314km south of Darwin and is the center of a large region covering cattle country, farmlands and national parks. The spectacular Katherine Gorge located, just 30kms from Katherine’s town centre in Nitmiluk National Park, is the region’s main draw card.

You can explore the gorge system on foot, choosing from 100km of marked walking trails or take a relaxing boat tour through the cool blue waters.

Canoes can be hired and a helicopter is available for scenic flights. The Park also has wonderful opportunities for photography, swimming, picnicking and bird watching. Aboriginal art can be seen along the base of the escarpment.

The Katherine Museum is your key to the region’s history while at the Springvale Homestead, the Territory’s oldest surviving homestead dating back to 1879, you can join in the excitement of a corroboree, a traditional Aboriginal dance. Or visit the Cutta Cutta caves, south east of Katherine. These fascinating limestone caves are also home to rare bats.

All the main attractions are easily reached by sealed roads, accommodation is plentiful and there’s something for every pocket.
